In short

The Bali retirement visa is the E33F retirement KITAS: a 1-year limited-stay permit for foreigners aged 60 and over who will not work in Indonesia, renewable up to 5 years with a local sponsor.

  • For retirees aged 60+
  • 1 year, renewable up to 5
  • Local sponsor required

What the application needs

The parts every retirement KITAS file is built from.

Indonesian sponsor

Most limited-stay permits need a local guarantor. It is mandatory.

Financial evidence

Proof of income, balance and, if requested, a deposit.

Accommodation proof

A rental that meets the minimum value, matching your address.

Health insurance

Cover that meets the requirement.

Local employee

Employing one Indonesian worker, such as a housekeeper or driver.

e-Visa filing

The application is submitted on the e-Visa system.

How the process runs

Four stages, from first check to arrival.

  1. 1

    Eligibility check

Age, finances and plans reviewed against the current E33F criteria.

  2. 2

    Documents prepared

Proof of age, finances, accommodation and insurance, checked before filing.

  3. 3

    Sponsorship & filing

The sponsor files on the e-Visa system and answers any request.

  4. 4

    Issuance & arrival

Enter Indonesia within 90 days of issue, then complete local reporting.

Who qualifies

The E33F retirement KITAS has five core conditions.

  1. Aged 60 or over

At least 60 years old on the day you apply.

  2. Not working in Indonesia

  3. Financially independent

You can show the funds to support your stay on your own.

  5. Eligible nationality

Your country is not on Immigration's "calling visa" list.

Two things retirees often ask

Why do files get delayed?

Usually because documents that are valid on their own disagree with each other: name spellings, validity windows, addresses or unclear income proof. Check the file as a set.

Is a KITAS the right permit?

Retirement is one of several stay categories, alongside second-home and family permits, each with different tests. Compare the routes plausibly open to you before deciding.

Information, not legal advice

  • A KITAS is a limited-stay permit, not permanent residency, and runs on a renewal cycle.
  • Requirements, formats and official charges are set by the Indonesian authorities and change.
  • Verify current rules with the Directorate General of Immigration or an Indonesian embassy.
